Rajasthan's folk music is often described as a raw and simple art form, with this concept Mame Khan wants to give a new and deep insight into the complex sounds of the almost semi-classical art of the Manganiyar community to sing and recite the ancient songs. Another leading idea behind this concept is that folk music can be considered the mother of many other musical genres and that the sounds of the desert carry a mystic vibe, which is timeless and relevant, especially today.
The idea is to create a full-strength orchestra - based on the layout and arrangement of a classical orchestra set- using all folk instruments of Rajasthan - mainly the signature instruments of the Manganiyar community. Mame Khan has created a set list with a fully new approach to Rajasthan's oral folk tradition. He has taken the traditional folk songs of the Thar Desert and created for the first time a full arrangement for each song making it sound almost orchestra-like.
The new arrangement will create a unique experience for the audience with strong instrumental parts, showcasing the complex beauty of Rajasthan's folk music. The song selection is meant to take the audience beyond the very commonly known Rajasthani folk songs to widen the horizon of the listener toward some of the more unknown but equally beautiful compositions. Especially focusing on the compositions of Mame Khan's father late USTAD Rana Khan. The unique feature of this concept will be an overwhelming audio experience by which the stage set up is creating the illusion of a classical orchestra but in contrast to this, the sounds will be those of the Golden Thar Desert sung in the signature voice of Mame Khan.
